Meet & Match: how Wim found his place at Van Dijk
Sometimes a new step in your career just happens naturally. That was exactly the case for Wim when he walked into Van Dijk Trucks. After his job in boat building fell through, he started looking for technical and challenging work. Preferably close to home, so he could easily cycle to work.
“The idea that you can come and take a look without any obligation before you even apply really appealed to me.” Wim happened to come across the announcement for Meet & Match at Van Dijk Trucks via Facebook. “The idea that you can come and take a look without any obligation before you even apply really appealed to me,” he says. And so he decided to drop by on a Saturday morning.
That first impression was a hit right away. “I walked in and thought: this feels like a warm welcome. The atmosphere, the team, and how everything was organized – it just felt right.” The low-threshold introduction left him wanting more, and not much later Wim spent a day in the workshop to see if the work really suited him.
That turned out to be the case. Wim has now been working happily as a new-build mechanic at Van Dijk Trucks for a few months. “The size of the company took some getting used to. Suddenly you’re in the canteen with many more colleagues and stories,” he laughs. “But I feel completely at home here.”
For Wim, Meet & Match was the perfect way to discover without any pressure if Van Dijk was a good fit for him. “You get an honest picture of the work, the people, and the atmosphere. Exactly how it is in practice.”
